POWER PLANT LAKE REPORT

We grow big catfish in Texas! This catfish was caught in June on Lake Monticello, a hot water power plant lake located near Pittsburg, in East Texas. The water temperature on the surface was near 100 degrees. The fish was caught in approximately 25 feet of water. The fish weighed an incredible 70 Lbs! Why incredible, because it was caught on a spoon while bass fishing. The fish was released alive back into the lake. Hopefully, it is still there today. Two years later a 22 lb catfish was caught within 15 feet of where this fish was caught, also on a rod and reel, also on a spoon, and by the same person, within five days from the same date, at approximately the same time of day. It too, was released alive back into the lake! Is there a pattern developing here?

Not necessarily a pattern, but a very good time to fish for big catfish in this area. I see lots of catfishermen on the lake, but I have never seen them fishing where these two catfish were caught.
Why?.....

Probably because the lake is such a good catfish lake for drift fishing, that the average fisherman never gets to this part of the lake....and why bother, if you can catch fish out in the main part of the lake, with virtually no hang-ups, why bother with other parts of the lake.

Bass and Bream also grow big in Texas. Less than an hour from Lake Monticello is world famous Lake Fork, probably one of the hottest Bass Fishing lakes in the US. Although it is not a power plant lake, it deserves to be mentioned. It is located near Quitman, Texas. Coming soon, detailed fishing reports on this and other lakes around the world.
