Dingbat of the day award!
|
Click here for full story on Dingbat of the day award!
"Dingbat of the day award goes to American Gasoline Consumers for allowing
oil traders and speculators to control the price of Oil!!
Oil prices are high because of speculation, pure and simple.
That’s not an assertion, that’s a fact. Yet rather than attack
the speculation and rid ourselves of the problem, we flail
away at the symptoms. High gasoline prices? Oh, let’s use hybrid
cars, or drill in the Rockies or off the California coast. How
about doubling the use of ethanol, even though it costs more to
produce than the energy you get out of it? Then again, we can
go to Alaska, or build more refineries, or triple the number of
nuclear power plants. Sound good?
Recently we saw crude oil supplies rise to a six-year high.
Gasoline stockpiles were at a three-year high. Distillates
have come back from a steep deficit to inventory levels
that are now above where they were last year. Natural gas
inventories reside well above their five-year average.
Yet prices go up and up and up.
Okay, OPEC is producing at levels not seen since the early 1970s —
and that doesn’t even include Iraq, which is struggling to
achieve pre-Gulf War production levels, but will soon be there.
Furthermore, global production still outpaces consumption, even
accounting for China’s unsustainable economic growth rates.
In short, there is nothing in that equation that says oil should
cost what it costs today. Nothing! With one exception — speculation.

"Dingbat of the day award goes to North Korea for
testing their missile! Not only did it not work, it made George
Bush look like a hero!
Today, and for years to come, North Korea poses no missile threat
to the U.S. homeland. Indeed, the world market for North Korean
missiles probably tanked a bit on July 5, especially as one of Kim's
shorter-range rockets almost landed on Mother Russia.
Not only has Kim's failed launch left him with egg on his face, he
made a fool of every patron he has in Asia. South Korea's
president, who has pursued a "sunshine policy" toward Pyongyang and
planned a state visit, implored Kim not to launch. He got the wet
mitten across the face.
Wisely, Bush ignored ex-Secretary of Defense William Perry and
former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, who urged air or
cruise missile strikes to destroy the Taepodong on its launch pad.
Kim would have had to respond, perhaps with an artillery barrage
on the DMZ. That could have ignited a second Korean War, the last
thing America needs now.
If there is going to be a second Korean War, let Koreans fight it.

Be Prepared for a National Disaster or Terrorist Attack!
What is Ready.gov all about?
Terrorists are working to obtain biological, chemical, nuclear
and radiological weapons, and the threat of an attack is very
real. Here at the Department of Homeland Security, throughout
the federal government, and at organizations across America we
are working hard to strengthen our Nation's security. Whenever
possible, we want to stop terrorist attacks before they happen.
All Americans should begin a process of learning about potential
threats so we are better prepared to react during an attack.
While there is no way to predict what will happen, or what your
personal circumstances will be, there are simple things you can
do now to prepare yourself and your loved ones.
Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected,
such as assembling a supply kit and developing a family
communications plan, are the same for both a natural or man-made
emergency. However, as you will see throughout the pages of Ready.gov,
there are important differences among potential terrorist threats
that will impact the decisions you make and the actions you take.
With a little planning and common sense, you can be better prepared
for the unexpected.
