image The 7mm Mag is not in the true magnum category, since it has about 700 ft-lbs. less muzzle energy than the 300 Weatherby, 8mm Rem Mag, or 338 Win Mag. The 7mm Mag is only about a 100 ft-lbs. ahead of a maximum 30-06 load with the180 grain bullet. But the 7mm Mag will deliver high ballistic coefficient 175 grain bullets with plenty of power—1,900 ft-lbs. at 400 yards. The 300 Win Mag has 300 ft-lbs. more energy than the 7mm Mag, but is still 400 ft-lbs. lighter at the muzzle than the 300 Wea Mag, 8mm Rem Mag, and 338 Win Mag.
