The Problem......
Every minute of every day, someone
is building a
new web page or complete web site to put on
the world wide web. Litterly hundreds or thousands
of new web pages are being built every hour by very competent
web site designers and web page consultants
and added to the billions of web pages already on
the internet.
Google (currently the number one search engine) has litterly
Billions of web pages in its index!! But, there
are litterly millions of web pages that are not yet indexed
by Google. Yours may be one of them!!
Some of these well designed and expensive web
pages will never be seen by the people that they
are trying to reach.
If you have a web page on the internet, how do
people find it to get information or to buy
from you?
The Solution......Targeted Advertising!
Advertising your website on television, radio, or newspapers
is not effective because people are not on the computer right
then, and they will not remember your website address!!
One of the most effective ways of advertising on the internet is
to purchase key words from the search engines. When people
do a keyword search, the search pages show a link to your
website in the margins.
This is very effective, but can also be very expensive
because of the millions of people who might
click on your ad that are just browsing the
internet for items that are not really related
to your website.
If you do purchase keywords on the major search engines,
you should limit your exposure until you
see how expensive these ads can be. If you are not prepared
to spend $2,000, $5,000, $10,000 or more per month, you need to place a
limit on your ads. Once the ads are clicked, you will be
charged on your credit card for the clicks, even though you may not
have received that much of a benefit from the traffic.
Another effective, but not so expensive alternative, is to
purchase advertising on other websites similar to yours
or that already have an audience you are trying to reach.
For a fee, most website owners will let you place your ads on their
websites if you are not in competition with them. As for fees,
you should negotiate a fixed fee from the site that you
can afford. Fixed fees are really more fair for you in
the long run. Especially until you know how effective
the advertising will be. If you are getting traffic, and still
not selling your products or services, it may be your
web page that is not effective and not the advertising
website.
How to Choose Advertising Location
Choosing a web site to advertise on for your particular
product or service will require some work.
If you are selling a particular item or service, simply
having a lot of traffic on a site will not necessarily
translate into effective advertising. Example: YouTube
and MySpace get millions of visitors every day, but unless
you are selling a generic product like insurance, or homes, or boats,
or automobiles, or merely want to advertise your corporate name, the traffic
they have will not necessarily translate into effective advertising
for the product or service you have.
A more effective way to advertise is on a website that is
directly related to your product or service.
For example: If you have hunting dogs for sale, it would probably
be a waste of time and money to advertise on a site that has a lot
of traffic for people searching for automobiles or boats.
If you have poodles or yorkies for sale, it would not be very
effective to advertise them on sites that sell goats.
If you have hunting related items for sale, it would probably
be a waste of time to advertise them on a fishing site.
etc...............
If you have hunting dogs for sale, advertise on hunting sites. If you
have hunting related items for sale, advertise on hunting and outdoor
related sites.
To find out what web pages you need to advertise on, do searches
on all of the major search engines. If a site does not show
up in the first couple of pages of search engine results for keywords
you are trying to reach, it will not be effective for you, regardless of
how much traffic they have for themselves.
When searching for a particular item, use several different
keywords in different order. Use several different search
engines because some people prefer certain search engines
and use them exclusively, even though they may not be
considered the most popular one at the time.

You will get different search engine results from
different keywords and so will the people you are trying to reach.
